Music scholarships will be awarded, following the music scholarship auditions, to those candidates demonstrating real musical talent and potential. Those who show considerable potential, but do not achieve the standard we are seeking from our scholars, may be awarded an exhibition. Music auditions will take place in early February.
Music scholars are expected to play a full part in the musical life of the school participating in choirs and orchestras. It is anticipated that all music award holders will study music at GCSE.
General guidelines for music scholarship candidates:
11+ candidates would be expected to have reached Grade 3 on their first instrument.
12+ candidates would be expected to have reached Grade 4 on their first instrument. It would also be an advantage to be learning a second instrument.
13+ candidates would be expected to have reached Grade 5 standard on one instrument and to be learning a second instrument.
The parents of potential music scholars are strongly advised to contact the Director of Music to discuss their daughter’s current musical progress.
