Revolting Rhymes play "huffed and puffed" and blew the parents away!

The girls of Year 3 and 4 transformed into well known characters from Roald Dahl last week to put on a superb performance of Revolting Rhymes.
Revolting Rhymes is a collection of Roald Dahl poems published in 1982. A parody of traditional folk tales in verse, Dahl gives a re-interpretation of six well-known fairy tales, featuring surprise endings in place of the traditional happily-ever-after.

Girls from Y8 to Y11 attended the area athletics trials today at the new Middlesbrough Sports Village. Girls competed in all events across all age groups against 9 schools from the area. The girls were incredibly supportive of each other throughout their events and the Queen Mary’s spirit ran true.

The Year 8s returned home exhausted but exhilarated after another successful trip to France. The girls were immersed into French language and culture with highlights including tasting snails at an escargoterie, and chocolates at la chocolaterie, with one recipe combining the two ingredients (not the girls’ favourite!).

Harrogate Festival delights for Year 5 and 6

The girls of Year 5 and 6 sang their hearts out on Saturday at the annual Harrogate Competitive Music Festival at Harrogate Ladies’ College.
Finishing a very close 2nd in the Year 6 and under category, the girls sang ‘I am a small part of the world’, an African round called Nanuma and Firefly.

The school was transformed on Friday for World Book Day as the girls took on the characters of their favourite books. With the senior girls dressing up as personalities from Shakespeare, and the junior girls becoming their favourite Roald Dahl or David Walliams characters, the books were brought to life in the classroom.

Queen Mary's Equestrian Team Riding to Victory

Over 200 competitors entered the N.S.E.A. Show Jumping Qualifier at Northallerton Equestrian Centre on Saturday 14th February, and against some really strong opposition, the Queen Marys girls produced some great results in what proved to be a very long and tiring day.

The Junior team of Amelia Murray, Amy Bell, Tara Barker, and Jemima Sanderson, with Sophie Stephenson riding as an individual, started the day with aplomb, taking 2nd place in a strong field, thus qualifying themselves for the championships at Addington in October.

LAMDA Drama Grade 8 Success

Three girls in S2 managed to secure a distinction in their Grade 8 LAMDA drama examinations. Anna, Ella and Flora took the Group Devising Drama exam last term, in which they had to select a newspaper headline and create a drama piece. “Deputy Mayor stuck in lift on royal visit” was the chosen headline with 3 people with dark histories being trapped together.

On Saturday 17th January, the girls that had qualified from the area championships competed at the North Yorkshire stage at Whitby. On a very cold and icy day, the girls were supplied with hot chocolate and blankets to keep them warm and prepare them for the event.

Area Gymnastics

On Friday 23rd January, Queen Mary’s took 9 gymnasts from Year 7 and 8 to participate in the Hambleton and Richmondshire Area Gymnastics competition. As the girls were new to the event we were not sure what to expect. Dressed to impress in matching leotards the girls performed a floor routine that had to comprise of 6 skills chosen from an allocated list.
