An experience of a lifetime is on the horizon for a 16 year old pupil of Queen Mary's School.
Faye Parkes and her fellow Head Chorister, Maddy Hunter, will perform Faye’s own composition in York Minster as part of the annual Music Scholars’ concert.
Entitled “Reed’s Lullaby”, Faye wrote the piece for her young cousin who will be a year old in May and it is part of her GCSE studies. The piece is written for two voices, the cello and harp and will be performed in the famous Minster on Saturday 1st May.
Nicholas Carter, who is the school’s Director of Music explained: “Each spring we hold a concert for charity to showcase our Chapel Choir and music scholars. We try to use the church nearest the home of the Head Chorister. Faye lives in Poppleton near York and is a former girl chorister at the Minster, so the Dean and Chapter have kindly agreed that we can hold the concert there.”
Tickets for the York Minster concert are available from the York Minster Box office and cost £8 or £5 for concessions. Accompanied under 16s are admitted free. Tickets include refreshments in the Chapter House afterwards.
The concert begins at 7.30pm and proceeds from the retiring collection will be divided between the Calm Project, in Africa, which is one of Queen Mary’s chosen charities and York Minster.
