Prep School Ages 7-11

The Prep School, for pupils aged from 7 years, continues the development of independent learning with a broad range of subjects taught by highly experienced form tutors and subject specialists in Science, French, Art, Music, IT, Food Technology, Drama and Physical Education. Our curriculum is broad based and challenging. We focus on individual academic achievement, the development of musical and sporting talent and the encouragement of leadership qualities, together with a spiritual awareness and care for each other both in the school community and in the wider world. During lunchtime and after school clubs girls develop their interests and hobbies – from canoeing and riding to quiz club and model-making – with many opportunities for enrichment.

Girls may learn the musical instrument of their choice within school. They are also given the opportunity of having Speech and Drama lessons.

Specialist PE staff encourage the girls to participate in a wide variety of sports and games; many girls become members of school teams and enjoy participating in tournaments and sporting fixtures. Girls have Science lessons in a dedicated Junior School Science laboratory, the perfect setting for the practical experiments which are an essential element of our primary Science curriculum. Our Junior Orchestra performs each term and our award winning Junior Choir rehearses each week. The girls perform in regular productions both in year groups and as a whole key stage, including a play in French in year 5.

The inevitable pressure of examinations is introduced with care; at the age of eleven pupils are confident and ready to make a smooth transition to Senior School.

The girls' education is complemented by a full and varied range of visits to museums, theatres, historical sites and places of interest, both locally and further afield. This includes residential stays in Outdoor Education Centres, overnight camps and a trip to France. The girls are also able to experience visiting workshops and speakers including authors and musicians as well as travelling theatre companies. The girls in KS2 also have the opportunity to take part in regular national competitions and challenges.

We foster a close relationship between parents, teachers and girls at all times and keep parents very well informed at all stages of their daughter's development.
