Activities

Pupils work hard and play hard, so leisure time, when they can relax or let off steam, is important.  With the perfect rural location and a full time outdoor adventure instructor, opportunities abound to participate in a wide range of outdoor activities. The sheer joy – and trepidation - of pupils trying something new brings an additional vitality and energy to school life. And when it is too wet to make dens in the woods or garden, then girls can sometimes be found sliding down the staircase of the Great Hall on gym mats!

Queen Mary's understands that risk is fundamental to success. Rather than avoid all challenges, pupils are taught to recognise, welcome and manage such situations and so learn to enjoy them safely through experiment and experience.

The spacious grounds adjoin the River Swale so canoeing and rafting expeditions are frequent pastimes. Clay pigeon shooting, camping trips in the Yorkshire Dales, and the climbing wall are popular with children of all ages.
