Music is a particular strength of Queen Mary’s School and plays an important part in daily life. A large proportion of girls learn at least one instrument. The musical repertoire covers a wide spectrum, from fun to formal, with regular concerts allowing all girls the experience of performing to an audience.
All Key Stage 2 pupils sing in a choir which is a timetabled lesson every week. Pupils can then progress to the Middle, Senior, and Chapel Choirs. The Chapel Choir performs regularly outside school to wide acclaim, and sings for the weekly Eucharist Service in school.
We have a Junior Orchestra, a Senior Orchestra and a number of ensembles who also stage concerts. Then there are the school rock bands whose performances add a totally different dimension and perspective to the word “creative!”
All pupils will learn Music within the curriculum from Reception until the end of Year 9. In addition to curriculum music lessons there are regular lunchtime theory clubs for Key Stage 2 and for those working towards Grade 5 theory.
