Riding is a well-established activity here at Queen Mary’s. Over 100 girls have lessons at Queen Mary’s Equestrian Centre, which is located within thirty five acres of Baldersby Park. Facilities include: fourteen loose box stables; two open barns; 60m x 40m all weather outdoor arena with a full set of BSJA show jumps; a small cross country course.
The school is proud to enter girls into national competitions regularly with great success. We were NSEA 90cm Showjumping champions in 2016. Our riders are actively engaged in the eventing circuit, and NSEA competitions, attending competitions throughout the country. Queen Mary’s actively encourages these pursuits and provides the support needed for girls to balance their studies with an active calendar of equestrian opportunities.
We are a British Horse Society Approved Equestrian Centre offering various livery options for girls wishing to keep their horses at school. Competition; full; grass and DIY livery are all available.
All children from Reception to S3 may take riding lessons either after school between 4pm and 7pm or on Saturday mornings for the younger age groups.
Group lessons last approximately one hour with up to 8 pupils per lesson. Private Lessons are available for either 30 or 45 minute periods. Both lessons are available with one of BHS qualified instructors. Lessons are offered on our own variety of school ponies offering the girls the confidence and foundation they need to progress.
The equestrian team aim to provide riding in a safe but enjoyable manner, with the emphasis on good horsemanship and sportsmanship. We hope the girls will not just enjoy their riding but will also have fun experiencing the many different aspects involved in the equestrian field.
The school organises a number of shows and competitions on site throughout the year which are open to internal and external riders. These include a dressage series, show x, and an annual show. We also organize showjumping and dressage clinics and external trips to showjumping competitions so the girls can gain valuable competition experience.
Above all, the school aims to nurture and encourage each child to enjoy riding and progress at their own level.
Children who are not currently enrolled at Queen Mary’s are also welcome to attend the Equestrian Centre for riding lessons when available.
