Academic Scholars Celebrate Research, Leadership and Achievement at Queen Mary’s
Queen Mary’s proudly hosted a special Academic Scholars’ Evening celebrating the research, achievements and individual passions of its scholars.
The event was designed as an opportunity for girls undertaking their Higher Project Qualification (HPQ) to present the progress of their independent research projects. However, it quickly became clear that the evening represented far more: it was a celebration of academic ambition, intellectual courage and personal growth.

Academic scholars at Queen Mary’s each explore a topic closely aligned with personal areas of interest. From advanced mathematical concepts and scientific research to humanities-based investigations and socially driven enquiry, the breadth of scholarship on display reflected both depth of thinking and genuine curiosity. Pupils shared not only their findings so far, but also the challenges, discoveries and resilience required in the early stages of academic research.
The evening was planned and led by Ava, one of the school’s scholars, who reflected:
“I have been so grateful for the opportunity to plan this evening. It pushed me entirely out of my comfort zone, but I have learned so much from the experience – skills that will undoubtedly support me in future leadership roles. What we hoped would be a chance for each girl to present her HPQ progress has become something much more. The innovation, determination and commendable dedication each student has shown has been incredibly inspiring to witness.”

The celebration also recognised the wider accomplishments of the Academic Scholar cohort. This academic year has seen success in national Maths Challenges, the awarding of scholarships to new schools, and a range of academic distinctions and awards, each scholar celebrated in a way that reflected her individual area of strength and commitment.
A highlight of the evening was welcoming Professor Jessica Meyer, an accomplished academic whose work in historical research provided inspiration and insight into the possibilities that scholarly pursuit can open.
