Voices of Woodard
Queen Mary’s Chapel Choir, together with pupils from Woodard Schools nationwide, graced Shropshire with their exceptional choral talent at the Voices of Woodard event.
From Evensong at Shrewsbury Abbey to a sung Eucharist at St Oswald’s Chapel, Ellesmere College, the event aimed to share choral repertoire knowledge and liturgical performance experiences with schools across the country.
Their repertoire featured Mozart’s Ave Verum, The Heavens are Telling, Hail Holy Queen, and Stanford in Bb.
Chorister, Elle L in Year 10 said:
“The Woodard Voices trip was an incredible experience! The music we could create with the four other schools in such little time was truly extraordinary. From the first moment of arriving in the halls of Ellesmere College the pupils and staff were so welcoming. In the chapel, it felt like the songs lifted us to the heavens. Though we were thrown into learning songs that we had never sung before and there were 134 of us we could sing as one!
The first evening we came to the Quinta for a barbecue and Ceilidh dancing. The dancing was great fun and such an entertaining way to socialise with the other students, dare I say a little dangerous. On the second night at the Quinta, we had a quiz with each team being a mixture of the schools and we all let out our competitive side.
On the final day, we finished with a Eucharist at Ellesmere which was absolutely fantastic. I can’t believe it was over so quickly and I can’t wait to do something like this again!”
