Coronation Party in the Park at Queen Mary’s!

Queen Mary’s Coronation Party in the Park was a resounding success. The whole community came together on Friday 5 May 2023 to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III.

Baldersby Park was transformed into a hub of excitement and merriment, with a concert where all pupils had the chance to perform alongside refreshments and merchandise stalls, a DJ and charity stalls, and an inflatable obstacle course.

The concert included songs from Joseph, Mary Poppins to ‘Dancing in the Streets’ alongside two special Coronation Songs, Zadok the Priest and the National Anthem. Everyone then came together to sing ‘Bring on Tomorrow’ and even a drop of rain didn’t dampen spirits.

Then the party really got going with a DJ and percussionist who entertained everyone featuring saxophonist Suzannah from Year 10. It was wonderful to see pupils, parents and staff dancing the afternoon away.

Queen Mary’s Friends offered refreshments and merchandise. Attendees savoured delectable treats, from cream scones to Pimms and delicious sandwiches, and the famous Queen Mary’s Coronation Bears can now be seen across the school and in pupils and parents’ homes as a souvenir of the historic occasion.

Two groups of girls ran stalls in aid of Tourettes Action and Make-A-Wish UK and Year 9 offered face painting, nail painting and glitter tattoos to all pupils. An inflatable obstacle course proved to be a highlight of the event, attracting adventurers of all ages.

Queen Mary’s Coronation Party in the Park surpassed all expectations and everyone had a wonderful time.
