A Special Celebration of Faith at Queen Mary’s School: Confirmation Service 2025

North Yorkshire School, Queen Mary’s, Hosts its Annual Baptism and Confirmation Service for its Christian Students

At Queen Mary’s, one of the UK’s leading all girls schools, faith and community are at the heart of everything we do. Yesterday, our school community gathered in the school chapel for a truly inspiring Baptism and Confirmation Service, led by The Right Reverend Barry Hill, Bishop of Whitby. This special occasion celebrated the commitment of eleven of our pupils, from Year 6 to Year 11, as they embraced their faith in a meaningful and joyful ceremony.

As a proud Christian school and part of the distinguished Woodard Schools family, Queen Mary’s is committed to nurturing both the spiritual and academic development of our girls. Our religious ethos underpins daily life, from pastoral care to chapel services, helping pupils grow in character, confidence, and moral understanding. The Baptism and Confirmation Service was a perfect example of this ethos in action, offering an opportunity for reflection, celebration, and communal support.

The ceremony itself was a beautiful expression of faith, with the girls supported by their families, peers, and staff. The service allowed pupils to affirm their Christian beliefs and experience the warmth and encouragement of the wider school community. For many, it was a deeply moving moment, symbolising both personal growth and the importance of belonging to a caring, faith-based community. The event highlighted the unique environment at Queen Mary’s, where academic excellence goes hand-in-hand with spiritual development.

On the day, a total of 11 girls were confirmed by the visiting Archbishop of Whitby, with one also taking the opportunity to be baptised. The girls were the epitome of grace as they spoke honestly about what their Christian faith means to them and why they want to be confirmed. It was a wonderful and joyous celebration for all.

Following the service, the celebration continued with the cutting of a cake, a joyful moment that brought together families, staff, and students. It was an occasion that perfectly captured the spirit of Queen Mary’s as an all girls religious school: a place where tradition, faith, and community thrive alongside outstanding education. Events like these are at the heart of what makes a Christian school experience so special, fostering connections that go far beyond the classroom.

Once again, the Chapel choir did a wonderful job filling the chapel with glorious and wholesome music.
