All-Round Success for Queen Mary’s GCSE Girls
Today’s GCSE results from Queen Mary’s School round off what has been a full year of success for the school.
This year’s excellent results show that 100% of girls gained five or more 9-4 passes and almost one in three entries were awarded the most outstanding grades 8-9. The school also celebrates significant value-added scores that measure achievement against predicted grades throughout each girl’s educational journey.
Over 25% of this year’s leavers have secured scholarships to attend prestigious sixth forms including Academic and Music scholarships to Stonyhurst, Barnard Castle, Sedbergh and Shrewsbury.
Alongside the outstanding GCSE results, Queen Mary’s girls have been awarded 100% pass rate in ABRSM Music examinations with four girls, all of whom under 16, achieving Grade 8 Distinction and all girls taking Speech and Drama examinations achieving a Merit or Distinction. On the sporting front, the Gymnastics U16 Team came third in the Yorkshire Schools Competition, a great number of the girls have been awarded their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award and the Queen Mary’s Riding Team were placed third in the Intermediate Show Jumping competition at the National Schools Equestrian Championships.
Martha Davies, Head Girl at Queen Mary’s said: “I’m so happy! It feels like I’ve just taken the first step towards fulfilling my ambition to become an equine vet. It’s great that so many of our year group have been able to come to school today and celebrate together one final time before we all head off to our new schools… well done and good luck everybody!”
As the most senior year at Queen Mary’s, the GCSE girls have not only developed a passion for academic excellence in their final year, they have also grown into confident individuals. By taking on responsibilities which have included public speaking, representing the school and taking on the physical challenges associated with Queen Mary’s Outdoor Education, they have developed key skills within the all-girls environment that will prepare them for the next stage of their education.
Mrs Cameron, Head of Queen Mary’s School, is delighted: “My warmest congratulations go out to all of our GCSE girls. These excellent results are a reflection of the hard work and dedication of the girls and staff, as well as the support of the whole school community. They are a testament to the school’s strength and commitment to delivering the highest standards of education. I am so very proud of all that they have achieved both inside and outside the classroom. They will leave Queen Mary’s as confident, kind individuals with integrity. I wish them well as they move onto the next step of their educational journeys, I know they will thrive.”
Queen Mary’s offers a broad curriculum, allowing pupils to pursue their interests within small classes designed to encourage their development and achievement.
