Queen Mary’s Ukraine Appeal
Many pupils, staff and parents have rightly asked, what can we do to help the people in the Ukraine and those refugees who have fled with their loved ones? The Community Service Group and Queen Mary’s Friends have organised two ways in which we can ‘do our bit’ to support people in this humanitarian crisis.
Local Campaign – Yorkshire to Ukraine:
A number of parents and members of the Queen Mary’s extended family are part of a group that will be driving vans over to the Ukraine. From Monday 7 March onwards, donations of specific items can be brought to the Outer Hall. Thank you to Queen Mary’s Friends who have offered to take them to the drop off point in Thirsk.
For their third leg the ‘Yorkshire to Ukraine’ team is asking for the following:
Painkillers
Bandages
Thermal Clothes and Jackets
Baby Food and Milk
Nappies
Baby Wipes
Bedding
Blankets/Duvets/Sleeping Bags
Colouring Books and Pencils

We have raised £1,035 so far. Thank you to everyone who has made a donation.
The Political and Historical Context:
Our Senior pupils had an excellent presentation from History Teacher Mr Hagan explaining the history and politics of the region to give them a greater understanding of the context surrounding the current crisis.
