Nurturing boys and girls to make their own story.
Set in its own dedicated buildings and parkland within the school’s beautiful 40 acre site, Queen Mary’s private school Pre-Prep, for boys and girls aged 4 – 7, provides the best start to your child’s learning journey. Whether he or she is a budding astrophysicist, lawyer or ballerina, the opportunities for formal learning and informal learning through play will excite their curiosities, encourage self-confidence and unlock their potential.
Within Queen Mary’s Pre-Prep we create a happy, homely, caring atmosphere that is educationally stimulating, challenging and exciting. We believe that being polite, respecting others and creating magical childhood memories are as important as developing academic skills.
Why Choose Queen Mary’s

Highly Qualified, Experienced Staff
Dedicated staff work with small class sizes allowing them to focus on each individual child and develop a working partnership with you as your child’s first and most long-lasting educator, giving you feedback and reporting. Alongside our class teachers, with additional qualifications in Montessori methods and Forest Schools, additional support is also on hand from subject specialist teachers, teaching assistants, the Catering Team, the School Nurses and pastoral care team.
The children enjoy Forest School every week and make use of the beautiful grounds and woodland during many other lessons and activities. From the Secret Mission and Strawberry Picking to a Christmas pantomime and trips to Thirsk School Games and visiting speakers such as the police and fire service.
Swimming, Outdoor Education, Music, Physical Education and French form part of the weekly schedule alongside a timetable of both formal and informal learning opportunities.
