Build your confidence and express your vision.
There are many opportunities to harness your
creativity whether you enjoy performing, dancing or more
visual arts such as painting and sculpture.
Productions
Every academic year all Queen Mary’s pupils, across the year groups have the opportunity to perform on stage. From the opera, ‘Dido and Aeneas’ to ‘Sleeping Beauty: The Ugly Truth’ to a pantomime, ‘Annie’ and Cabaret Nights the opportunities span many genres. Some girls take charge of many technical and backstage functions and like all activities, the whole community encourages participation. The school also supports children who wish to take part in performance opportunities outside of school including musical theatre productions and filming.
Speech and Drama
Whether you wish to be a lawyer, actor or a CEO, having the skills and the confidence in front of an audience is essential. Our girls enjoy working towards examinations both individually and as part of a team and consistently achieve high grades with over 90% Distinctions in Reading, Acting and Devised Drama.
Dance
Dance is delivered to all Queen Mary’s girls within the core PE and Performing Arts curriculums, but can also be elected as an extra-curricular activity.
IDTA Ballet is available to dancers in Reception to Year 8, whilst IDTA Jazz is available to dancers in Year 4 – Year 11.
Extra-curricular dance classes can be enjoyed recreationally once a week, or for those who successfully audition for the competition teams, dancers can train up to three times a week throughout the year for Regional and National competitions.
Opportunities for all dancers at Queen Mary’s include the annual Dance Showcase, the annual Dance Masterclass event and performing in the annual Senior musical.
Art
The thriving Art Department at Queen Mary’s School includes a large newly refurbished double-height Art studio flooded with natural light, textiles studio and opportunities to exhibit and create art in the beautiful 300 year old building and surrounding grounds. Girls work across all disciplines including photography, painting, drawing, printmaking, textiles and graphics.
