Senior School Curriculum

Inspiring and challenging lessons go beyond the curriculum with individual encouragement and support.

Queen Mary’s staff do not just teach you how to pass examinations, they inspire you to become an independent thinker with self-belief and confidence. You will then excel in examinations and take these skills with you to succeed in your future life. The holistic learning journey at Queen Mary’s is bespoke, exciting and rewarding, and one where the concepts of justice, equality and stewardship prevail.

As well as English Language, Mathematics and Science, you will be encouraged to develop your interest and ability in English Literature, History, Geography, Religious Studies, Modern Foreign Languages, Art, Design Technology, Latin, Classical Civilization, Music and Physical Education. Your Child as an Individual

Our dedicated personal tutors build a relationship with you and your parents to ensure that girls who are academically strong or have particular talents are nurtured to fulfil their potential with the Queen Mary’s Scholarship Programme. Pupils who may struggle in a certain area are given full support to surpass their expectations with our Support for Learning Department and due to the size of the school, girls who fall in between are also individually encouraged to do their best and have their own personal support to achieve. All decisions are bespoke and tailored towards the best outcome for you as an all-round person.

Real Experiences and Real Passions

As part of your learning journey there will be many local, national and international trips and study tours. Additionally, opportunities to develop your passions such as Science Club, Queen Mary’s Society, Coding Club, entry into competitions such as the UK Mathematics Trust challenges and selection for the UK Youth Parliament are available. Events such as GCSE Poetry Live, the Oxford Classics Day and Bright Minds Conferences are offered to bring learning to life.

Feedback and Reporting

We aim to develop a strong working partnership with you and your parents with informal and formal feedback and reporting. Parent consultations provide an opportunity to speak with teaching staff about progress and targets for future progression. You will receive pupil profiles each Term with Attitude to Learning indicators, current attainment and minimum target grades as well as a full end of year report. Teachers and Tutors are ready to answer any questions you may have and academic clinics are available.

Throughout your time at Queen Mary’s there are age appropriate opportunities to discuss potential next steps and careers. Inspirational speakers and trips, independent advice from a careers advisor, topics within PSHE lessons and presentations from key members of staff are all available.
