Why All Girls

Research shows girls do better in girls schools.

We Understand Girls

At Queen Mary’s, we believe girls do best in an environment designed specifically for them – and research reveals just how much better they do.  Here, each girl is known, supported and given the space to shine. From age 3 onward, we’re committed to empowering our girls, ensuring they leave with the skills, confidence and capabilities to take on the world, happily become who and what they want to be.

Designed for Girls

Everything we do at Queen Mary’s is designed with girls in mind. With 100 years of expertise as specialists in girls’ education, and as proud members of the Girls’ School Association (GSA), we offer an academic experience shaped by cutting-edge research and a relentless commitment to excellence. This ensures that every girl receives the best education, both academically and emotionally, preparing them to become unstoppable forces in whatever they choose to pursue.

Academic Achievement

The evidence speaks for itself: girls in all-girls schools consistently outperform their peers in co-ed settings at Key Stage 4 (GCSE).  Girls in girls’ schools GCSE attainment is 20% higher in their best eight subjects (GCSE Attainment 8 Score) than girls in co-ed schools. Research consistently shows that when girls are in an environment tailored to their needs, they achieve more academically. Our single-sex environment allows teachers to focus entirely on the unique learning styles and needs of girls, ensuring every student is fully supported to reach their potential.

Leadership Opportunities

At Queen Mary’s, we don’t just encourage our girls to lead—we give them the tools and more opportunities to do so. Every leadership opportunity is a girls opportunity. Research shows that in co-ed environments, girls are often less likely to take on leadership roles, despite participating more frequently than their male counterparts. At Queen Mary’s, every leadership role—from Prefects to House Captains—is held by a girl. We cultivate strong leadership skills, empowering girls to take risks, inspire others, and build resilience. These experiences provide them with a solid foundation as they step into university, the workplace, and beyond.

Confidence That Transforms

Girls attending all-girls schools are more confident, emotionally resilient, and self-assured than their peers in mixed schools. Our research shows that girls in single-sex settings possess higher mental toughness and emotional control, equipping them to navigate challenges with poise. In fact, less than 1 in 5 alumnae, parents, and teachers believe that their confidence would not have developed as strongly in a co-ed school. At Queen Mary’s, our girls believe in themselves—and that belief is everything.

Breaking Down Stereotypes

We challenge stereotypes and encourage girls to pursue their passions without limits. Whether it’s excelling in STEM, leading on the sports field, or taking charge in leadership roles, our girls are encouraged to push boundaries and follow their interests, free from unconscious bias. The result? Empowered girls who break through barriers, setting their own path in the world.

Aspire Higher

Girls at Queen Mary’s aim higher. Research shows pupils in all-girls schools have bigger ambitions—and we make sure our girls know the sky’s the limit. Whether pursuing Medicine, Engineering, or a creative career, we support their dreams. Girls in girls’ schools are more likely to pursue and succeed in subjects like Maths and Science at A-Level. They are also significantly more likely to study STEM subjects at University: more than four times as likely to apply to study Maths, twice as likely to apply to study Physical and Biological Science, and 40% more likely to apply to study Engineering.
